Live Performance from Memphis Music Supergroup Celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the Beatles Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album
BARTLETT, TN, June 2, 2017 – This June marks the 50th anniversary of the release of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by the Beatles, the album most music critics still regard as the greatest rock album of all time and undoubtedly the most influential album for a generation of musicians who would follow in the Beatles footsteps. By 1967, the Beatles had stopped performing live shows and focused all of their attention on innovative studio releases. Sgt. Pepper, therefore, was never performed live. In fact, Beatles producer George Martin once said that their intention was to create songs that could not be performed live.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, a superstar cast of Memphis musicians from several prominent local bands have come together to create “The Sgt. Pepper Experience.” Featuring Rick Camp (The Crime, Jeffrey and the Pacemakers, Vintage), Kurt Ruleman (Beat Generation, Vintage), Char Magnifico (Vintage), Louis Magnifico (Kiss Me Quick, Vintage), Pete DeGloma (Brad Birkedahl and the Burning Love Band), and Charlie Yarwood (Harrison Creek, Think as Incas, Portrait, Suburban Trunk Monkeys), The Sgt. Pepper Experience brings together some of the best local music talent to blend with a multimedia presentation which will combine to re-create the Beatles album live.
“I’ve done a lot of amazing things during my career in music but my lifelong dream has been to perform this album live in its entirety.” says guitarist Rick Camp, who was deeply inspired by the legendary album as a youth. “The was the definitive album that marked the end of the Beatles as merely a pop act and established their position as pioneers in mature, experimental rock theater.”
“1967 was a monumental year in music history,” says bassist Louis Magnifico. “The Beatles released Sgt Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour, Jimi Hendrix released Are You Experienced?, Pink Floyd released Piper at the Gates of Dawn, The Doors released their first two albums. We want to create the feeling of being back there in 1967 when you come to this show. It will look, feel, and sound like the Summer of Love once again.”
The site for this event will be the historic Ruffin Theater on the square in Covington, TN on June 24, 2017 at 7:00pm. Elvis Presley himself once performed on this stage and while the Beatles did not, The Sgt. Pepper Experience is about to bring the British Invasion back for an encore. Advance tickets for the event are $10 and on sale now at the Covington, TN Chamber of Commerce, from Danno’s Grill on the square in Covington, or from Lydia’s Fashions in Covington. You may also secure tickets by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 901-490-5782.
